Milkweed

A male and female monarch hover around dried milk weed pods. The milkweed is essential to the monarchs survival. Eggs are laid on the plant, the larva feed off the milkweed and get poisonous qualities from feeding on the plant. This protects them from birds. Through metamorphosis the butterfly also has the same bitter taste that the birds intuitively leave them alone. Other butterflies that look similar to the monarch will also be left alone by predators because of this.
